How useful has a particular critical approach been in growing a deeper understanding and appreciation of your chosen film?

There are many theories and approaches that have widened the appreciation of my chosen film 'Fight Club' however the theory that best helped to understand the plot twist in detail was the Freudian Analysis. The scene that strongly shows the Freudian analysis in place is in Tyler's apartment when he's having intercourse with Marla. Jack quotes 'I could have moved to a different floor, but i didn't' showing he wants to be apart of whats happening. On a more realistic level him actually being Tyler shows the id (his unconscious desires) had taken over and given in to the want of being with Marla.

An example of him succumbing to the super ego is when he starts attending the self help seminares such as testicular cancer and tuberculosis, although he doesn't need help in these particular fields he knows he needs to sleep and the only way this is possible is to cry.
